GETTING STARTED WITH CREATIVES

A Creative is the content of your email. Emails can be written in text, html, or text/html format. For text Creatives, opens are not tracked. In text emails, only fully qualified clickable links will be tracked.

Step 1 - Navigate to the Creative screen

Click on the Creative tab to open the drop-down menu and select Add Creative.

Step 2 - Fill out Creative information

Fill out basic information about the Creative, including the Creative Name, "From" Name, "From" Email, Subject, Suppression List, Campaign Tags, and Type of Creative.

Creative Name:

This is for organizational purposes and will not be seen by the end user. Use a descriptive name that tells you the purpose of the email, as well as the event date and the drop number. The standard template is "[Event Location] [Event Type] [Event Date] [Drop Number]". If there isn't a specific date, use the year.

Examples:

  • Manhattan Movie 8 23 16 Drop 1
  • Thank you for dining 2016
  • Father's Day 2016 Drop 3

"From" Name:

This is also known as the sender name. Your sender name(s) should be consistent to minimize confusion. The "From" Name will appear in your email as shown in the Gmail example below:

"From" Email:

This is the name that will be seen before your Sender Domain name. It will appear in your email as shown below in this Gmail example:

Subject:

This is the subject line of the email. It will appear in your email as shown below in this Gmail example:

Campaign Tags:

Click on Campaign Tags to enter campaign tags for your email. You can either input the tags manually or you can chose tags from ones you have used before.

Hint: This will help you organize your creative and reports screen. You cannot go back and edit the campaign tags, so if you want to add tags to your creative, you must do so during this step.

There are many ways to make a creative in MTE. Click the option you are using to get instructions.

IMPORT AN EXISTING CREATIVE (FILE UPLOAD)

Step 1 - Select Option

In order to import an existing creative select I want to upload files from my hard drive for this creative.

Step 2 - Upload Creative

Every email should be sent out with two components: HTML and text. The text version is only served if the recipient has poor bandwidth. It is a best practice to always have a text version to improve deliverability.

Uploading the HTML Part

Click on the Choose File button to upload your html file. When uploading a file, it has to be in .html format. Once your file is uploaded as an .html, the Creative will be ready for edit and use.

Hint: Image files (such as .psd) must be converted to html code for email to be sent. If you need help with this, MarketTraq's professional email coding team can convert and test your Creatives to ensure compatibility with over 40+ of the most popular email clients. See the pricing schedule provided below for your reference.

Uploading the Text Part

Click on the Choose File button to upload your text file. If you have a text file this is where you will upload it. However, if you do not, click here to learn how to create one after you have uploaded your .html file.

Excluding Links from Tracking (optional)

IMPORTANT: By default do not check this check box unless you have some links on your creative that you want to exclude from tracking.

Click Add Creativeonce you are done to add it to MTE.

Hint: Remember to save and test after a change is made to your creative.

TESTING YOUR CREATIVE

It is a best practice to test all creatives after every change.

Step 1 - Navigate to the Creative screen

Click on the Creatives tab and open the Creatives Overview screen. This will take you to a list of all your creatives.

Step 2 - Click the send test button

Find the Creative you want to Test and click the Test Icon under Actions.

Step 3 - Send Test

When sending a test there are two types of tests: Simple Test and Full Test.

Simple Test: Will display the word "[Test]" before the subject line. You will need to input the individual emails which will receive this creative, separated by commas. With this type of test you can send test emails to yourself or colleagues to see how they render on your email client. These emails will sometimes be in your spam folder, so be sure to check before sending it again. Any email addresses that are entered will not be added to your lists.

Full Test: Will simulate how your email would send in a real world setting. A drop-down menu will ask you to select a seed list to be the recipients. For the test to work, the seed list must have fewer than 20 recipients. MarketTraq automatically shows only the lists with fewer than 20 recipients. This test will take a few minutes to send, but it will allow you to collect detailed information on opens and clicks.
